You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.

What is MBCT?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCT) is an approach that blends the practical tools of CBT with the grounding practices of mindfulness. It helps you notice your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations without judgment, so you can respond with clarity rather than react automatically.

MBCT is especially helpful when you feel caught in cycles of:

  • worry

  • rumination

  • self-criticism

By slowing down and cultivating awareness, you can break free from unhelpful patterns and create space for new ways of relating to your inner experience.

What Can MBCT Help With?

Research shows MBCT is effective for:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression and preventing relapse

  • OCD and intrusive thoughts

  • Chronic pain or illness

  • Burnout and overwhelm

  • Emotional regulation challenges

You May Be Wondering…

  • MBCT is collaborative, skill-focused, and experiential. In sessions, you’ll learn:

    • Mindfulness practices — Breathing, grounding, and body-awareness exercises that bring you into the present moment.

    • Awareness of thoughts — Recognizing thoughts as mental events, not absolute truths.

    • Emotion regulation skills — Tools to sit with difficult feelings without becoming overwhelmed.

    • Behavioral strategies — Practical steps to shift habits and take meaningful action.

    • Self-compassion — Approaches to treat yourself with the same care you’d extend to someone you love.

Your therapist may guide you through short mindfulness exercises in session and help you bring these skills into daily life.

  • Often, we get stuck replaying the past or worrying about the future. MBCT helps you step out of autopilot and anchor yourself in the present. From that grounded place, you can respond to challenges with flexibility and choice instead of falling into old patterns.

By combining mindfulness with evidence-based CBT strategies, MBCT offers both immediate relief and long-term resilience.

  • At Collaborative CBT, we weave mindfulness into therapy in a way that feels approachable, practical, and tailored to you. You don’t need prior meditation experience, just curiosity and a willingness to practice.

We’ll work together to help you develop greater awareness, resilience, and compassion, so you can handle life’s challenges while building a calmer, more centered relationship with yourself.
