Perfectionism - What We Treat

People think I have it all together, but inside I’m exhausted.

Nobody’s perfect - but when you struggle with perfectionism, it can feel like you should be.

What Does Perfectionism Look Like?

Perfectionism can show up in ways you might not even recognize.

It often sounds like:

  • Putting off tasks because you’re worried you won’t do them “right”

  • Spending hours re-checking, editing, or revising something that was fine the first time

  • Constantly comparing yourself to others and feeling like you don’t measure up

  • Feeling like your worth depends on how you look, achieve, or perform

  • Becoming frustrated, anxious, or depressed when you don’t meet your own standards

  • Keeping your environment or appearance “just so” because it feels like a reflection of you

The irony of perfectionism is that it doesn’t actually lead to success – instead, it fuels procrastination, burnout, self-criticism, and even strained relationships.

How Therapy Can Help:

In therapy, we’ll look at how perfectionism has impacted your life and begin to loosen its grip.

Together, we will:

  • Recognize the unrealistic standards you hold yourself to

  • Learn strategies to reduce procrastination and self-criticism

  • Build comfort with “good enough” work and progress over perfection

  • Practice self-compassion and healthier ways to measure success

  • Create small, realistic goals that help you move forward with confidence

Is Perfectionism The Same As “High Standards”?

There’s a big difference between having high standards and setting standards so high they become impossible to reach.

Instead of motivating you, perfectionism often keeps you stuck, afraid to make mistakes, afraid to fall short, and afraid that others will see you as less than.

Moving Towards Freedom.

Perfectionism might feel like it keeps you in control, but in reality, it often keeps you from living fully. Therapy offers tools to break the cycle, so you can take risks, feel more present, and enjoy life without the constant pressure to be flawless.

You don’t have to keep striving for an impossible ideal. With support, you can learn to let go of perfectionism and embrace being human, imperfect, but enough.
